ALEX BERTI


SENIOR

Alex enjoys most sports but has been actively playing soccer, baseball and basketball since first grade. He started playing on a basketball team in the Fortuna Recreation Department league. He played for the Scotia Athletic Association Basketball team in third and fourth grade. He played for the Fortuna Spartans from fifth grade on. He received the All-Tourney Award in the 7th-8th grade McKinleyville Invitational Basketball Tournament in 1991. He received an Academic Athlete Award for 1991-92 while attending Fortuna Town School. In 1993 he received the All Tournament Sportsmanship Award at the 8th grade Boys Fortuna Invitational Basketball Tournament and also in 1993 was named Fortuna Elementary Student Athlete. Alex played on the Fortuna Union High School Freshman Basketball team in 1993-94. Alex has been playing on the FUHS Varsity Basketball team since his Sophomore year as point guard. His sophomore year was a very exciting one, as the FUHS Basketball team competed in North Cost Sections in Albany, California.

Alex played on the FUHS Varsity Soccer team his Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior years, playing forward, midfield and defensive positions. In 1992, 1993, and 1994 the FUHS Varsity Soccer team took the HDN league title. This year's soccer season was very rewarding, with FUHS Soccer team taking second in the league, being able to compete in North Cost Sections in two games here at home. Alex was a Varsity Captain of the soccer team his senior year. He received his HDN "All County" star and Most Valuable Player Award his senior year. Alex also plays baseball. His position is shortstop. He received and HDN Honorable Mention in All County selections his Junior year. He played for the All-star baseball teams in both Little League and Babe Ruth.

Academically, Alex has maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or better all four years in high school. He is planning on attending College of the Redwoods after graduation, majoring in Physical Education.

I want to thank my family for always supporting me, with a special thanks to my Gramps who has never missed a game and has always been a positive source of encouragement.

In practice there is always a time when you can dog it, but when you take that time and work hard you will always be a step ahead. That's my advice for future players at this level.
