JEFF WOOD

SENIOR

Jeff's basketball experience started way back when he was in the second grade, in the Fortuna Recreation League. He has attended Fortuna Elementary School all the way from Kindergarten thru the Eighth Grade. During the last four years at Fortuna Elementary he played his first real competitive basketball. During these elementary years he got involved in several other sports. The first sport that he began was the game of golf, which he started when he was at the age of four. Soccer and baseball were soon to follow. He played all four of these sports through his freshman year, after which he decided to compete in just his two favorite sports, basketball and golf, while spending more time on his academic goals. These two sports that he has chosen are not only his favorites, but they are probably his best. He has received "All League" honors in golf the last two years and narrowly missed receiving the same honors his freshman year. In basketball, he received an award for the "Most Improved Player" his freshman year and "Mr. Defense" his sophomore year and is now a second year varsity player. Concentrating on only two sports, he has been able to get more involved in student activities around campus. He is an active member of the National Honor Society (NHS) and the California Scholarship Federation (CSF). He has two great years in the production of the high school newspaper, the Husky Howler. He has also received numerous academic awards such as the School Honor Roll, and Award of Honors on the Golden State Exam for both Algebra I and Geometry. Other activities that he has been involved with at school have been various Homecoming activities. He worked on the winning Junior float last year and the second place float this year, participated in numerous lunchtime activities, was a Junior Cheerleader last year and a member of the winning senior Lip Sync. Jeff would like to take the time now to thank all of his past coaches, especially his father, for helping him develop his skill for varsity basketball competition. His advice for the younger players is to learn as much as you can from your coaches, to work as hard as you can, and as Jimmy "V" once said, "Don't give up; don't ever give up," because winning comes from the heart.
