Shannon started to play basketball almost as soon as he learned to walk. He would play basketball with his older brother, Steven. They helped each other improve their skills. Shannon started organized basketball as a junior varsity player at Cuddeback while he was in the 4th grade. He moved to the varsity level in the 7th grade.
Shannon also played on the Scotia / Rio Dell little league baseball team and broke the leagues home run record by scoring 16 home runs for the season. That year Shannon was selected for the "All Star" Team. Shannon also has a couple of other interesting accomplishments. During his 8th grade year, he and a team mate Aaron Elam were awarded $500.00 scholarship, by the Crescent City JC's for being named to the "All Tournament" team. Their team took first place in the Crescent City annual basketball tournament. Shannon also holds one other record that will stand for some time to come. While he was still in the eighth grade, Shannon participated in the annual Interschool Council's 24 hour Relay. With only hours left to go he decided to run until it was over. Shannon, with some encouragement from his brother, set the "Most Miles" run with 31 completed miles. When Shannon has some free time he can be found at Empire Lanes in Fortuna. He loves to bowl and play pool, and is very good at both. Shannon's father Steve Parker Sr. has helped him fine tune his bowling skill. Most evenings you can find Shannon at home doing his homework and talking to his dad, when he returns from work.
In school Shannon has his likes and dislikes, but his favorite class is Geometry. One reason is because his teacher Mrs. Barkdull, "she is nice and she offers her help when ever you need it." The other reason Geometry is his favorite subject is, "all of my family members have strong math backgrounds and abilities and they are very good at it."
Only being a sophomore, Shannon hasn't decided on a college or a course of study yet. He would like to attend a college with a good basketball program. Shannon would also like to thank his family and his grandparents for their support and love.
