Colby started to play basketball when he was about seven years old. He played on the pee-wee team on the Scotia Athletic League through Pacific Lumber Co. This was Colby's first taste of basketball -- and he knew right then that he loved it!. He played with that league for a few years and then when he was in sixth grade he played for the team at Rio Dell Elementary. They didn't have very many players on their team that year, but they played hard and it was a great learning experience for Colby.
Colby gives a lot of credit to Wade & Wes Nally for coaching him in those early days and teaching him skills that he still uses today.
From then on basketball has been the only sport he's really cared about. He played both 7th and 8th grade at Rio Dell Elementary and his Freshman, Sophomore & Junior years at Fortuna High School. He is really looking forward to his Senior year.
When Colby isn't playing basketball, you can usually find him fishing or hunting with his father and brother. They like to go out on the ocean and fish for bottom fish, halibut, tuna, salmon or whatever fish might be in season. They also like to hunt deer. Another favorite pastime of Colby's is organizing 3 on 3 tournaments in his backyard.
Colby's favorite class is Woodshop. This is his fourth year in the class. He has teamed up with Brandon Bailey to build a "player's name board" for Damon Gym. Colby and Brandon hope to have the project finished by their first home game in December.
Colby hopes to continue playing basketball at the Junior College Level. Colby wants to thank all of his coaches and teachers over the years that have been very inspirational for him. Colby's advice to up and coming younger players from Rio Dell Elementary, is to work on all the fundamentals, your shot and train hard so you can be quick on defense.
He wants to thank his parents, Larry & Val, and his brother, Karsten, for their love and support and always being there for him and encouraging him to do his best.
