Alex enjoys most sports but has been actively playing Soccer, Baseball and Basketball since first grade. He started playing on a basketball team in the Fortuna Recreation Department league. He played for the Scotia Athletic Association Basketball team in third and fourth Grade. He played for the Fortuna Spartans from fifth grade on. He received the All-Tourney Award in the 7th-8th Grade McKinleyville Invitational Basketball Tournament in 1991. He received an Academic Athlete Award for 1991-1992 while attending Fortuna Town School. In 1993 he received the All Tournament Sportsmanship Award at the 8th Grade Boys Fortuna Invitational Basketball Tournament and also in 1993 was named Fortuna Elementary Student Athlete. Alex played on the Fortuna Union High School Freshman Basketball team in 1993-1994. Alex played varsity basketball as point guard his sophomore year. He really enjoyed playing on Varsity Basketball team as a sophomore and gained a lot of experience during that time. It was a very exciting year, with FUHS Basketball team being able to compete in North Coast Sections in Albany, California. Alex enjoys playing basketball and hopes to gain experience, improve on his game, and have lots of fun.For the last three years, Alex played on the Fortuna High School Varsity Soccer team playing both midfield and defensive positions. In 1992, 1993 and 1994 the Fortuna High School Varsity Soccer team took the HDN league title. Alex also plays baseball. His position is primarily shortstop, however he has played various positions. He played for the Allstar Baseball teams in both Little League and Babe Ruth.
Academically, Alex has been on the honor roll and has chosen a college prep avenue for his education. His academic schedule and athletic involvement keeps him extremely challenged and he therefore is not involved in any school clubs at this time. However, he enjoys attending all the school functions, such as plays, football games, pep rallies, and other extracurricular activities which are going on.
Alex does have some tips for the elementary hopefuls of FUHS Basketball: practice, practice, practice. Take advantage of any games (or one on one) you can against those better than you in order to challenge your ability - it makes you learn, it makes you think, it makes you appreciate competition.
Alex is really enjoying high school and doesn't have any specific college plans for the future at this time. Right now he just wants to enjoy high school as much as possible.
