Kellen Maynard

JUNIOR

Kellen has been involved in athletics since he was in the third grade.  He enjoys participating in basketball, baseball and recently started golf.  He started playing basketball when he was in the third grade for the parks and recreation league.  When he entered the fifth grade he as selected to join the sixth grade Toddy Thomas basketball team.  Kellen played for the Toddy Thomas Hornets from fifth grade on.  In his seventh grade year he received the All-Tournament award for the Toddy Thomas seventh Grade Tournament.  During his eight-grade year he received another All-Tournament award at the League tournament.  One other milestone during his eighth grade years was to set the schools assist record of 85 assist in one season.  That record still stand today.

Kellen played for the freshmen team in 2000-2001 as a point guard and helped the Huskies earn a share of the Big 5 title.  During Kellen sophomore year while playing point guard the Junior Varsity team went 21-3 and took second in the Big 5.  It has been an exciting two years playing basketball at Fortuna.

During Kellen sophomore year, he played baseball for Fortuna Junior Varsity as shortstop and closing pitcher, while batting second in the line up.  The JVs’ took first place in the Big 5.

Recently Kellen has stared playing golf.  He and his father play often and Kellen loves the game.  Kellen says about golfing, “It helps to relax me by going out there and being outside and just not thinking about anything but gold.”

Academically, Kellen has maintained an overall GPA of 3.3 or better for his first three yeas of high school.  He is not sure where he wants to attend college, but he thinks he will probably go to Humboldt State University and he still has not decided on what to major in.

Kellen wants to thank his family for being so supportive and always telling him he did his best.  He wants to thank his Dad the most for always keeping a positive attitude toward his game and telling him to keep practicing and working hard.  Dad never misses a beat.  Thanks for always being there Dad!

Kellen’s advice for future players is this “always gives it your all, even if it looks grim.  If you never give up and work hard they you will succeed.  You will get rewarded for your hard work and that will be the best feeling ever.”
