As a Freshman, Jennifer made the Junior Varsity Team under the direction of Mike Benbow, whom she
admires and respects as a coach and a teacher. Jennifer was named "Most Improved Player" at the end of
the season and at the Jennifer Nunemaker Tournament made the All-Tournament Team.
"Jen", as her friends call her, enjoyed working on the Homecoming float and participating in the Lip
Sync this year. In her spare time, she loves to play one on one with her cousin Michael B. Jason, draw,
listen to music, talk on the phone and spend time having fun with her friends. As a Sophomore this year,
she'll be playing with the Varsity Basketball Team as a point guard. Jennifer believes that dedication, lots
of practice, teamwork, sportsmanship and coaching are the keys to success in basketball.
At home Jen loves to spend time playing with her dog "Annie", watching movies and spending time
with her family. Her mother and grandma are, by their admittance, her "Biggest Fans". Before moving to
Fortuna, Jennifer would come here to visit her grandma and fell in love with this quaint, friendly town. So
when given the opportunity, she was very happy to move and settle here with the Mom, Lynn.
Jennifer is taking College Prep courses as she plans on attending a university in California upon
graduating from Fortuna High School. She volunteers at Redwood Memorial Hospital, spending time with
people who are ill. Jen has a way of making people laugh even when they don't think they want to laugh.
Jennifer Johnson started playing CO-ED Basketball in the 3rd
grade at the Boys & Girls Club in Santa Maria, California. She
continued playing through the 6th grade and then made the 7th
grade basketball team at Fesler Junior High School. Moving to
Fortuna in 1994, she attended the College of the Redwoods camp
and was named Most Valuable Player at the camp. Jennifer
next played 8th grade basketball at Town School with the team
taking an undefeated championship Title. She also made All-Tournament Team at the Zane/Windship Invitational. During
her last year at Town School she was named the "Outstanding
Athlete of the Year".
