Marci has enjoyed athletics since she was very young. At the age of three she could be found down at the babe ruth field watching her dad's team or playing in the dirt. By thethird grade she had found the sport for her, basketball. Playing on the Scotia Athletic
Association's co-ed team was her first basketball experience. There she learned the
basketball basics from coaches she still admires today. According to these coaches, as well as her dad, "defense is the key to every game." These words stayed with her as she
continued playing basketball on the Toddy Thomas 7th and 8th grade teams and on the J.V. team her freshman and sophomore years.
Off the basketball court, Marci enjoys many other activities. She has been on the volleyball team for the past three years. She also is an active member of the student council, where she holds the position of Campus Beautification Commissioner. Another organization that means a lot to Marci is FFA. In the Spring, FFA takes up most of her after-school time since she is an officer and participates in public speaking contests as well as judging teams.
However involved Marci might be with sports and other activities, she knows that academics must always come first. By taking college prep classes as well as honors courses, she is trying to prepare herself for life after high school. Going on to a four year college is one of her biggest goals as well as one of her greatest fears. Since she was born and raised in Fortuna, leaving this small community might be hard. So she is enjoying her remaining year at Fortuna High and sports will definitely be some of her lasting high school memories.
