Bernadette Saffell, daughter of Jack & Danielle Saffell, has been playing basketball ever since the 5th grade. She started at Standwood A. Murphy School where she also graduated. Along with Basketball, she played Volleyball and Softball. She was also
involved in her School Council, in which she was the Vice President her 7th Grade Year
and President in the 8th grade. After she graduated from Scotia, she became active in high
school sports. She tried out for the JV Volleyball team and the Freshman Basketball team.
That was the first year the Fortuna High School had the Freshman program offered to
women. After basketball season, track season comes around and this is where she "Long"
and "Triples Jumps", her coach and trainer is Mr. Rod Kausen. Along with sports, she is
involved with a singing group at the high school called "Camerada Singers". This is an
audition only choir and that competes with other schools in Humboldt and Del Norte
counties.
Bernadette is also in involved with the "Inter-School Council" which is a drug and alcohol free group of student representatives of all the High schools the North Coast Area.
She also likes hanging out with her friends and driving to Arcata, in her spare time. She loves dancing, coffee, people, coffee, making people laugh, coffee and her youth group.
Bernadette's family is very supportive through her many endeavors. Her father, Jack, tries to attend all her games. Bernadette's mother, Danielle, who is deaf, tries to have her uniforms washed, food ready and always there with moral support when things don't go as they should. Bernadette has an older sister, Desiree, who is 19 and attends Wheaton College in Massachusetts. Bernadette's younger siblings are Charisse, who is 9 and Javan, her only brother, who is 7 years old.
