Briar has played basketball since the sixth grade when she played for Rio Dell. She knew then
that this was the only sport for her. Her freshman year she played for the junior varsity team
and received the most improved player award at the end of the season. Her sophomore year
she played for the JV team and received the most valuable player award. Her junior year she
played on the varsity team and received two all tourney awards.
Besides practicing basketball year round Briar participated in many extracurricular activities at school. She is a member of CSF and is president of NHS. She is also a member of Interact, Interschool council, Junior Volunteers, It pays, and Ti s-A-Tac. She is a rally commissioner and a Link Crew Leader. She has been a member of Yearbook for three years and enjoys it very much. It is a class where students can get somewhat prepared for life in the real world. This year she is a co-editor under the advisement of Mary Lou Asp, her favorite teacher.
Besides school, Briar enjoys taking sports pictures for yearbook, camping, swimming, reading, watching movies and hanging out with her friends. Next year Briar hopes to go to college and play basketball. Briar wants to be a teacher and a coach after attending college. Briar would like to attend Sonoma State, Humboldt State, or UC Davis.
Briar's advice for younger players who want to have a successful basketball career is to practice daily, work on the fundamentals, keep a good positive attitude and never give up. Basketball is a sport that requires a lot of dedication. Real players are made in the off season. Work hard in school and stay away from things that are not good for you. If you do your best off the court it will pay off on the court.
Briar would like to thank all of her coaches of the past. Especially her varsity coaches. She would like to thank Fortuna High School for a great four years. She enjoyed high school and hope to enjoy college even more. She would like to thank her best friend Amanda Torgersen and "The Gang" for always being there for her. She would also like to thank her cousin Steven for being such a loyal fan and finally her parents, and her brother Evan for all their love and support.
