Maria
has played basketball since the seventh grade. She started playing for Toddy
Thomas Elementary School. She knew from the beginning that this was the sport
for her. In
her freshman year at Fortuna, Maria played for the Junior Varsity Team.
During her sophomore year she continued to play for the Junior Varsity
Team. At
the end of the season awards dinner Maria received the Co-MVP award. This year
as a junior she ran Cross County and is now playing on the varsity basketball
team. Last
Summer Maria attended a Point Guard & Post players basketball camp in
Redding during the hottest time of the year in the valley.
Besides
practicing basketball year round Maria, Maria runs for Fortuna’s Cross Country
Team. In
school Maria enjoys her pre-calculus and US History classes.
Mr. Senestraro and Mr. Louv are two of the teachers Maria enjoys and
makes learning fun.
In the future Maria would like to attend University of California Santa
Cruz after graduation.
She would like to become a pediatrician and then travel to all parts of
the world helping those less fortunate than her.
When
she is not in class and not playing basketball, Maria enjoys reading, running,
watching movies and most of all sleeping.
Maria
would like to thank all of her coaches of the past. Especially Coach Strahan,
who motivates her. She would like to thank her mother Reyna, who is the most
important person is her life; She would also like to thank her brothers and
sisters.
