Growing up in England, Joey Molland was part of the British invasion that included The Beatles, Herman’s Hermits and the Rolling Stones ….. music that continues to influence artists of today.
Influenced by Carl Perkins, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis, Joey became an accomplished guitarist and vocalist. With well known groups such as the Merseybeats, The Fruit Eating Bears, The Cryin’ Shames, and Gary Walker and the Rain, Joey played the same string of clubs as the Beatles, including the legendary Cavern and The Blue Angel in Liverpool. Joey’s songwriting skills contributed three hit singles in Japan with The Rain.
In 1969 Joey joined a group of artists in London, adding his super rhythm guitar, vocal skills, and song writing ability. They recorded their third album for Apple Records under the new title Badfinger. Writing the majority of Badfinger’s songs he gave them a new direction in rock ‘n’ roll. They had four top ten singles in the 70’s including No Matter What, Day After Day, Baby Blue and Come and Get It, a song given them by Paul McCartney. One of their most famous hits of all time, Without You, was a hit for Harry Nilsson in 1972 and Mariah Carey in 1994.
Badfinger toured America seven times in four years, recorded four albums for Apple Records, and two in association with Warner Bros. During 1977-1978 Badfinger recorded two more albums. Joey made two solo records producing one and playing most of the instrumentals himself.
Among his other accomplishments Joey played on George Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass” album and with John Lennon on his “Imagine” album. In 1972 he played at the Bangla Desh Concert at Madison Square Garden and on the album that followed.
Joey has produced several bands in his career spanning 35 years and, has performed all over the world with famous acts and artists. He has received rave reviews worldwide for his music and has published over 60 songs on CD’s and albums. Also adept at a bit of comedy, he has had them rolling in the aisles with laughter with his Liverpool wit and talent shining through in each new song or phrase.
Joey continues to entertain, touring and recording with Badfinger.
