Born in Iowa in 1951 Bob Harris began his career in the 4th
grade with the trumpet and continued to play throughout his
school years. In junior high school, after hearing the popular
group Blood Sweat & Tears, he formed a seven piece band that soon became the most important part of his life. During his university years at NW Missouri University, he majored in music. He also fronted a nine piece horn band, doing just vocals.
In 1971 Bob moved to Florida. He began playing keyboard and also began to sing. He gained experience with several different rock and roll bands. Moving to Boulder Colorado, Bob became the main song writer and keyboard player for the group Boulder, besides singing lead and background vocals. Shortly after his time in Boulder, he spent a year with Warren Zevon playing keyboard and singing background vocals. A few of their well known hits are Werewolves of London and Lawyers, Guns, and Money.
Bob auditioned to become part of Frank Zappa’s group in Los Angeles. His role in that band again featured his dynamic vocals, keyboard and trumpet skills. He was with Frank Zappa for 1-1/2 years, before moving on to the Steve Vai music scene, where he also continued to play with Zappa. You Didn’t Break It was written and performed by Bob on Steve’s 1998 re-release of Flexible Leftovers on Epic records.
Bob joined the group Axe in 1996, and began a phase of his career that saw him touring Europe three times by 2001 where Axe’s number one hit Rock and Roll Party in the Streets is still popular and the reformed version approaches legendary status in some music circles.
Bob’s musical talent has been recorded by a number of recording companies over the years, including Elektra, Epic, Barking Pumpkin Records, MTM Music (Europe),Zero Corp. (Japan), N.E.H. Records (USA), Divine Records, and Muffin Records.
Bob now lives in Colorado where he continues to entertain, adding his powerful voice, dynamic keyboard, and charismatic stage presence to numerous musical projects. The newest project, classic rock group “The RETROROCKETS,” will take you on a tour through the yesteryear of Rock and Roll.
