Jim Popenoe Vegetation along the Rim Trail |
|
Red alder (Alnus rubra), a deciduous tree, dominates the tree layer along the much of Rim Trail in Patrick's Point State Park. Beneath the alder canopy are deciduous shrubs such as [on the lower left] red elderberry (Sambucus callicarpa) and [on the lower right] salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis). Also notable in Patrick's Point State Park is the Octopus Trees Grove with its old-growth Sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis), as well as the scrub vegetation on the ocean bluffs. |
