brian ladd: an american banned
My work with Orbitronik and Blackhouse is driven primarily by electronic
rhythms, MIDI timecodes and sampling technology. With gallons of the
grooviest gear spilling off my desktop and the ability to "fix", "correct"
and "perfect" every nuance in my music, is it any wonder that the biggest
mistake I could ever make would be to rely solely on these machines to
create my musical characters? I mean, yeah: I like my gear and my drumbox...
but there's something so incredibly gratifying that happens when I pick up
some drumsticks and just play! It's a feeling of freedom because I don't
have to plug 'em in and I don't have to tune them... much, anyway. It's
instant satisfaction! Forget sequencing too! Gimme my trusty old 4 track
cassette recorder - it's less bother. And while we're at it, let's throw
caution to the wind & dump any preconceived notions about song composition
or lyrics - it's all too pretentious and confining! I'd rather just make it
up as I go.So what do we have here? My drums, my bass, my guitar work and
my voice. That's it. It's all improvised on the spot, and it's all about
having fun - something I forgot about for far too long.

BOSS TRAX: This cut is about the early days of my recording career, and
how easy and fun it was to just goof off and play around with music & tape.
NIGHT SCENE: I cruise the streets and scope out the sights. All I see are
the same people sitting in the same chairs at the same tables at the same
coffeehouses. Why? Apparently the latte is really really fab.
NIGHTMARE ON LADD STREET: I'm a rocker at heart & this is MY street!
ADRENALIN: It gets my heart pumping. A very natural and dangerous drug.
TRIBUTE TO THUNDER: It's my salute to drums & drummers. Drummers rock!
THE KIDS OF TODAY: The members© of the Night Scene®. I wish they would
actually do something with their lives instead of just being seen. I love
'em & I hope the best for 'em, but I can't help but feel they are treading
water & need inspirational motivation. The same as I did when I was a kid.
SEX TIMES THREE: Good times & fun are important, but ya gotta be safe!
RIOT 1969: A time bomb. The political activism of the hippies was coming
to a close & love was quickly giving way to conformity. Hippies became a
commodity & revolution became the enemy. They tried.... they failed.
GOOD TIMES: It's got a catchy beat & riffs, but no real substance. It's
stupid.... yet... perfect! Disposable & fun. All hail the jerk!
DEATH TRIP 2000: From cradle to grave, from womb to worm - what a trip!
HAVE SOME FUN: My favorite cut! Because.... sometimes all the rhetoric
and "meaning" is just too damn much! Ya gotta get away - ya gotta go go go!
That's what this release is all about: Just giving in & having some fun.
Mistakes and all.... bad takes and gall.... who cares???!!!??? I think it's
important that we all just kick back, relax and have some fun!
That's my life trip.

I hope you enjoy this goofy release as much as I do!
