Come meet the biologists and technicicans of LBJ. Biologists and Botanists to fill your needs...

Rob Hewitt, Director
Director of LBJ Enterprises and former president of the local Redwood Region Audubon Society. A professional Wildlife Biologist, Rob has promoted birdwatching throughout the area including both the Godwit Days and Aleutian Goose Migration Festivals. Rob's enthusiastic and easygoing character has helped many gain an appreciation of birds.

Nicole Jurjavcic, Staff Botanist
Nicole received a M.S. in Ecology from University of California Davis in 1999 and a B.S. in Biological Sciences in 1995, and joined the LBJ staff in January 2002. Her previous botanical experiences include a combined eight years of work both for the National Parks (Sequoia & Kings Canyon and Redwood) and University of California, Davis. She is skilled in plant identification (including grasses, sedges and lichens) and has performed botanical surveys for rare, sensitive, and invasive species projects in a variety of California plant communities. She is a member of the North Coast chapter of the CNPS. As botanical project manager, Nicole is in charge of all botanical surveys for development projects and THPs and the associated informal consultation with CDF&G. She is also responsible for reviewing and/or writing all final project reports.

Eve Gilmore, Field Botanist
Eve has worked as a field botanist since 1997 having graduated from Miami University in 1996 with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a focus in Ethnobotany. Eve worked for the University of Montana studying rare endemic plant populations and has practical experience with plants in a diversity of venues in this country and others: nursery, greenhouse, noxious weed removal, organic farm, landscaping, and teaching. She was recently in charge of the field surveys for 14,000 acres of Hoopa Tribal Forestry land. This project determined habitat type and plant community composition for different forest stand polygons, as well as the presence of rare or endangered plants and traditional tribal plant populations. This work was to be integrated into the tribe's watershed planning for 2003 and 2004.

Steve Tucker, Wildlife Technician
A college sophmore who has impressed us all with his exceptional birding skills as an LBJ technician for the past four years.  Originally from Southern California, he assisted in the Ventura section of the American Birding Association Guide to Birding Southern California.

Tristan Mckee, Staff Ornithologist
A recent arrival in Humboldt, and a student at CR, Tristan brings a wealth of experience from his home back in San Mateo.  Tour guide for Shearwater Journeys and a member of the California Bird Records Committee, he is a welcome addition to the LBJ Crew.

Gretchen O'Brien, LBJ Associate
Gretchen moved to Humboldt County from Oregon in 1996.  After two years at College of the Redwoods, she transferred to Humboldt State University to acquire a Bachelor degree in Wildlife.  She has been working with LBJ Enterprises since 1998, in various capacities.  Gretchen is also involved in many of California's wildlife festivals, including the local Godwit Days, participating as a field trip leader.  She is an active birder and is a member of the North Coast Chapter of the Wildlife Society.
