Theoretical orientation

I am fundamentally person-centered and humanistic. This means that I believe in a genuine, egalitarian relationship. Unconditional positive regard is a necessary condition for therapy (this means no judgment). And I believe that people are inherently good and always self-actualizing (that means on the path of fulfilling their potential and gifts). I also believe that people hold the answers within themselves, therapy offers an environment that supports the finding of these answers. Unlike Rogerian Purists, I can be directive and use interventions from Cognitive Therapy (examining and reframing thoughts), Gestalt Therapy (emphasizes awareness, presence in body), and Transactional Analysis (analyzing and altering relationship patterns that may be maladaptive). Most therapists seem to do what helps their client even if it strays from their predominant theoretical orientation.
