Laminate separation? Need advice please.

I have what I believe is a wood laminate floor in my home (I'm almost positive it is but it was here when I moved in). I don't know how old the floor is but it's been here as long as we have (about 9 years). Recently I've noticed that when I step on (and then step off of) certain parts of the floor, it makes a kind of crackling noise that makes me think the laminate layers have separated a bit. The flooring isn't raised or anything, however. We've kept the floor clean but probably haven't done enough waxing, etc., however.

Can anyone out there give me some advice on what to do here? It's winter and it's been real dry where I live (Kansas) so maybe there is some seasonal separation. Has anyone heard of anything like this before though? And if it's not just seasonal separation, do any of you have some suggestions on what to do here to tighten up the layers and remove the "sklitching" sound?

Any advice would really be appreciated. I've looked for information related to this but can't find anything other than installation types of discussions. If you want to email me directly that would be great as well.

Thanks!

Larry
