Hi Susan, these gentleman offer great advise.I would only offer one more small bit.

When they say have a professional look at your floor. This means have someone that knows concrete substrates inspect it.Just a calcium chloride test may not be enough. There are ways to measure movement of cracks also.Depending how much money you want to spend of course.

There are alot of flooring professionals that might not pick up on the potential problems as Evan and Ray pointed out.

If I were you I would find the closest flooring inspector that has experence with concrete substrates to have a look.Do it now or possibly do it after the new floor has been installed.

You can find one at http://www.nicfi.org/index.html

Good luck,Stephen

: The cement floor in the kitchen has patches of adhesive. It is not level and has cracks (live in a clay area of foundation problems). Can I put vinyl (sheet or tile) over it. If so what preparation should I use? I hear horror stories about moisture, staining, etc. Help!
