Well, what we have in mind for a temporary flooring for this room is 3/8" birch plywood, cut in 1 foot by 8 foot strips, then painted and sealed with a few coats of poly. Hopefully this will look something like an old wood floor that has been painted.

As I said, we expect to replace this plywood floor with something better before too long, so we'd like to be able to take it up. We wouldn't want to leave it down and put new flooring over it because that would raise the floor level too much.
