I have a question about asbestos and vinyl tile. I
recently removed vinyl tile from the kitchen and
bathroom subfloors because it was in bad shape. I used
a scraper and tried wetting the tiles down to remove
them, both of which helped. Now, two years later, my
wife is getting all upset that I didn't test the tile
for asbestos before removing them and feels that our
children and ourselves are at risk for health problems.
The total square feet in question was about 100-150
square feet. My question is, what is the likelihood
that the vinyl tile/resilient flooring had asbestos in
it, and if it did, is this a problem that I should
worry this much about? The tile came up fairly easily
and the only thing left after removing it was pieces
of the "black backing". Should I be concerned? What is
the likelihood of health problems from this removal and
installation of Pergo and/or ceramic tile over it?
Please help before she drives me crazy with this...
