I had the same problem - removed some old carpet to find asbestos tile. I called in an asbestos abatement company and they gave me an estimate of a couple thousand to remove the tile and underlying glue (it's in the whole house). But the man also suggested we do it ourselves - as long as we did not sand or drill the tiles to free up the asbestos he did not feel that it would be a problem. He said that tile contains around 5% asbestos and needed to be turned into dust for the asbestos to become airborne and cause health problems. We are covering the now bare floors with laminate as well. I opted to remove the old asbestos tile as I do not want to have to disclose that I have asbestos in my home when we sell and, more importantly, I just feel better with it gone!
