Flatness is the key!!! The subfloor will be "encapsulated" when the job is done. So long as the "clean up" or prep provides a flat surface so the floor and move as it floats, you're good to go. The flatness is a quanifiable number that will be found in your installation instructions or warrantee statements. Usually about 1/8" in 8'. Small residue shouldn't cause a problem.
Yes, test the floor for moisture. Use duct tape to apply a 24" to 30" square piece of polyethylene to the floor. After 24 hours examine the plastic for droplets of moisture. If you have moisture, contact a pro installer for a more scientific test. Yes again, put down the poly sheeting as a moisture barrier and turn it up the walls about 2" and overlap polt joints by 8".
: I have to take up the carpet and scrape the padding but then how do I clean off the black glue which is on the cement? How clean do I have to get it? Do I need to check for leaks in the cement or will laying the plastic under the floor take care of that? I just want to be sure the floor is well prepared before I do anything. All advice is appreciated.
