Students, Teachers, Parents and Technology Coordinators are Invited!

Annual History Day computer related category competitions have been facilitated by the Blackberry Bramble Network Project(BBNP) in coordination with Humboldt State University since 1996. Dr. Delores McBroome at HSU has the official rules and details can be found on the History Day at Humboldt State University website.

From the National History Day Home Page: "During the 1998-99 school year, National History Day invites students to research topics related to the theme "Science, Technology, Invention in History: Impact, Influence, Change." The theme is broad enough in scope to encourage investigation of topics ranging from local to world history. To understand the historical importance of their topics, students must ask questions of time and place, cause and effect, change over time, and impact and significance. They must ask not only when events happened but also why they happened. What factors contributed to their development? Regardless of the topics chosen, students must not only present a description of their chosen topic but also draw conclusions about how their topic had an impact on the course of events, individuals, communities, nations, or the world."

One of our sponsors, Humboldt Internet, has recently opened a community lab. Owner Pam Olson has reserved the lab for History Day computer competiton workshops on Wed., Nov. 4, 1998 from 5:00 - 6:30 PM and Tues., Jan. 12, 1999 from 5:00 - 6:30 PM. The lab is located at Humboldt Internet, 750 16th St., Arcata, CA. You can click on the link to Humboldt Internet above and then on the link to the Community Computer Lab at the top of their home page to connect to an online sign-up calendar for the lab. Or, if you prefer, email or call me to inquire about attending a workshop.
