History Day Webpage Competition Winners
March 7, 1998, Humboldt State University(HSU)
Catagory: Computer Mediated Presentation

It was a pleasure to be involved in History Day at Humboldt State University again this year. I would like to thank Dr. Delores McBroome(HSU History Day coordinator) for inviting the Blackberry Bramble Network to facilitate the new computer technology category for the 3rd year. Kudos to Pam Olson at Humboldt Internet for providing server space for website entries and Cathy Dickerson and BeaAnn Ziegler at the Humboldt County Office of Education for arranging free computer workshops at the Glen Paul Center in Cutten and the Technology Center at the Bayshore Mall. Also, thanks to reporter Barbara Henry and the Times-Standard for printing an article about the local efforts which pioneered this category as well as the workshop schedules.

This was my first year as the "judge captain" for the computer category entries which gave me a real appreciation for the job Joyce Farruggia has done the last 2 years! Unfortunately Joyce could not attend this year, but Dr. McBroome made certain to acknowledge her contributions at the awards ceremony Saturday, March 7. Judges Robin Flowers, Amy Marquardt, and I were very impressed by the creativity and quality of these 6th through 12th grade individual and group student presentations. All 1st and 2nd place winners are eligible to go on to the state level competition in Sacramento this May. Following are the entries and results in the "Computer Mediated Presentation" category for HSU History Day 1998.
