Richard F. Krings, D.V.M.

Dr. Krings was raised on a farm in east central Nebraska until he was twenty years old. In 1969, he attended Platte Jr. College where he received his Associate of Science degree in 1971. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and specialized in preventive medicine--V.D. Epidemiology. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health from Colorado State University in 1975, he worked in Occupational Health for the state of Wyoming. In 1977, he entered Colorado State University and received his doctorate in 1981. Directly after receiving his license, Dr. Krings came to work at Broadway Animal Hospital where he has created a business emphasizing quality care for small animals.

In his free time, Dr. Krings enjoys sitting back with a good book, trying new restaurants, traveling, and developing new ideas.

Byrd Lochtie, Bookkeeper (Lifesaver)

Byrd Lochtie ran the Small Animal Sanitarium with her husband Dr. Robert M. Lochtie until the time of his passing in 1992. She now works at Broadway Animal Hospital as the bookkeeper, as well as working part-time as an independent consultant for non-profit Boards of Directors. Byrd received a Bachelor of Arts with honors in Chemistry from Cornell University. She has a lifetime teaching credential at College of the Redwoods to teach courses in youth leadership, money management, and non-profit board development. She also was elected twice to the Eureka School Board from 1980-1988. Additionally, Byrd trains adults in Girl Scouts, and has been a leader of Girl Scouts in the past. She is on the Board of Directors for the League of Women Voters of Humboldt County, and is one of the League's past Presidents.

Byrd has two children--David G. Lochtie, who lives in Lake Oswega, OR., and Ann L. Gunderson, who lives in Billings, MT.--and five grandchildren.

In her free time (what little time that is), she enjoys reading, writing, hiking, back-packing, camping, photography, nature, snow-skiing, biking, and, of course, her grandchildren. She also enjoys local theatre and local musicians throughout Northern Humboldt.

Dorie Johnson, Veterinary Technician

I have been working in the veterinary field since August 1996. I have done everything from kennel work, to grooming, to technician. It gives me great joy to work with animals. I graduated from Kansas State University in May 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a Pet-Vet option.

I was born and raised in the Kansas City area. While visiting my brother and sister-in-law in Humboldt during the Summer of 2003 I decided to make it my new home. I moved to Humboldt a few months later with my cat Harley.

After not working in a animal hospital for over a year I started to really miss it. I started working at Broadway Animal Hospital December 2004 and have been here ever since.

I now live in McKinleyville with my boyfriend, Kevin. We still have Harley and also a foster kitty, Dolemite.

Greta Turney, Relief Reception

Greta is a relief/on-call veterinary assistant, receptionist, and desktop publisher at Broadway Animal Hospital.

Greta graduated from HSU in the spring of 1999 with baccalaureate degrees in zoology, and microbiology with a minor emphasis in English writing.  She has three children, Jo, Perrin, and Korbyn.  She has been breeding Burmese cats since 1982 and has recently taken over the entire cattery that was family owned.  In addition to 7 cats, she also has a geriatric black lab (Trouble), a golden retriever mix (Pippin), a German Shepherd puppy (Angus), and a guinea pig her kids named Snarf.

In her free time, Greta enjoys fiction writing, walks down to the creek with her kids in the springtime to collect tadpoles, music, and counting the deer near the barn.
