Two Boys & a Girl

Joshua Aaron
born 30 October 1994,
a Halloween Eve kitty,
is a Red Burmese who
came to live with Laurette
12 February 1995.

He's now over grieving the passing of his life long friend and companion, the
Bombay Moshe Rambam
born 26 March 1992 -
died 5 December 2000.

Updated 8 July 2005:
When Laurette left MusicSources by ambulance for the final trip to Alta Bates in the late afternoon of Wednesday, March 23 Joshua was extremely agitated. He sensed he would never see her again -- and he was correct as she died ten days later. He is now slowly recovering from deep grief at his Ocean Drive home at the mouth of the Mad River where he enjoys the sunsets over the Pacific from the same vantage point where Laurette used to watch them and marvel that her nearest neighbor to the west lived on the northern tip of Honshu in Japan.
Josh loves napping in his sauna,
sleeping on Laurette's hot pad,
and getting brushed, combed,
and pedicured.

He also likes to sneak out to
the garden for a roll in the dirt.

Over the years when Laurette was in hospital Josh often managed to sneak in for a visit with her by hiding in a shopping bag and slipping under the bed clothes to avoid the nurses.

Josh tolerates numerous humans
fawning over him whenever
he wakes up for a stroll
about his premises.

Born in the same cattery as Josh on
1 September 2000
(though a Sable Burmese) Moshe Shanee
came into our home
9 December 2000 to
replace Moshe Rambam.

Josh was really surprised and then disappointed and finally very sad. He looked high and low for many weeks in vain - Rambam was gone forever and  had not even said good bye.

A mischievous six months old Shanee rests in a favorite chair, dreaming up tricks to play on unsuspecting humans no doubt.

Even the vet was surprised at Shanee's physical strength and stamina. He could knock down and pin a much heavier adult cat at the tender age of five months. At one year he could jump from the floor to the shoulder of his nearly six foot human companion - "owner".

Shanee is a dedicated
bird watcher. He has
learned to be observant
and careful outdoors.
He sees gull, goose, raven,
heron, pelican, cormorant,
osprey, eagle, vulture and
egret flying by. They appear
menacing and dangerous.
At 13 months Shanee had
matured to the point that
Josh could carry on his
routine without being
stalked and pounced on 1000 times each day.
This is one of Shanee's toys,
a much favored and much battered "mouse", which he has taught himself to retrieve when thrown or hidden in dozens of difficult places. When he feels like a challenge Shanee brings his mouse to a gullible human for a toss.

This is Paulapiano in late June 2004, playing with her blue octopus while waiting for Laurette to return from teaching at Sequoia Chamber Music Workshop at Humboldt State University. Paula was named after Paul McNulty, an instrument builder near Prague in the Czech Republic. She is mostly Maine Coon and was born probably in late September 2002.

Paula arrived in our home the same day as Laurette's new Beethoven fortepiano from Paul -- 2 December 2002. She was found after dark in the Berkeley Bowl parking lot -- tiny, cold, starving, homeless, and loaded with fleas. Paula ran up Alan's arm and attached herself to his shirt collar (just like a tick) and would not be pried off until she was safely home and enoying a portion of his Ahi Ahi. She was irresistible... and she still is.
