Windows XP Setup Instructions

Follow these instructions to setup Windows XP to connect to Humboldt Internet.

First click on the “Start” menu, then click on “Control Panel”.

If your Control Panel looks like this:

then you will want to click on “Switch to Classic View”, in the upper left hand corner of that screen. If you are already in Classic View your Control Panel should look like this:

Click on “Network Connections”.

In the Network Connections window you will want to click on “Create a New Connection” in the upper left hand corner.

This will start up the New Connection Wizard, which will walk you through the dialer setup.

1) The first page just welcomes you to the New Connection Wizard. There is nothing to select in this window, so just hit the “Next” button at the bottom of that window.

2) You should now see the “Network Connection Type” window. Select “Connect to the Internet”, then click “Next”.

3) In the “Getting Ready” window, select “Setup My Connection Manually”, then click “Next”.

4) In the “Internet Connection” window, select “Connect Using a Dialup Modem”, then click “Next”.

5) In the “Connection Name” window, type “Humboldt Internet” in the ISP Name box, then click “Next”.

6) In the “Phone Number to Dial” window, type in one of our phone numbers that is a local call for you, and corresponds to the speed of your modem (The second page of your signup sheet should have all our dialup numbers on it…again, please select a number that is a local call for you). After typing in the phone number, click “Next”.

7) In the “Internet Account Information” window, type in your User or Login Name in the “User Name” box (this is the first half of your email address...everything before the "@humboldt1.com"). Type in your password in the “Password” and “Confirm Password” boxes. You can leave all 3 of the check boxes at the bottom of that window checked. Then hit “Next”.

8) In the final window you should see “Completing the New Connection Wizard”. If you would like a shortcut for this new dialer placed on your desktop, check the box near the bottom of that window that reads “Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop”, then click the “Finish” button. Otherwise just click Finish.

That will finish setting up your dialer, and will open the dialer window to allow you to connect to the Internet. Just click on the “Dial” button to connect.

Once you are connected you can open a browser or email program and surf webpages or send and receive emails.
