Windows 2000 Setup Instructions

Follow these instructions to setup Windows 2000 to connect to Humboldt Internet.

1) First double click on the “My Computer” icon (on the desktop), and then double click on “Control Panel”.

2) In the “Control Panel”, double click on “Network and Dial-up Connections”.

3) In the “Network and Dial-up Connections” window, double click on “Make New Connection”.

This will start up the Network Connection Wizard, which will walk you through the rest of the setup process.

4) The first page just welcomes you to the Network Connection Wizard, there is nothing to select on this page so just click the “Next” button.

5) You should now see the “Network Connection Type” window. Select “Dial-up to the Internet”, and then click “Next”.

6) You should now be looking at a window that reads “Welcome to the Internet Connection Wizard” up at the top of the window. In this window select: “I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN)”. Then click the “Next” button.

7) On the “Setting up your Internet connection” window, select “I connect through a phone line and a modem”, then click “Next”.

8) In the “Step 1 of 3: Internet account connection information” window, you will

• leave the “Area Code” field blank.
• The “Telephone number” field should be filled out with one of our dialup numbers that is a local call for you (please see your signup sheet for a list of our dialup numbers).
• The “Country/region name and code” field should read: “United States of America (1)”.
• Then uncheck the “Use area code and dialing rules” checkbox, and click the “Next” button.

9) In the “Step 2 of 3: Internet account logon information” window, enter your login or user name in the “User name” field, and enter your password in the “Password” field and click the “Next” button.

10) In the Step 3 of 3: Configuring your computer” window, enter “Humboldt Internet” (or whatever you would like to name this connection) in the “Connection name:” field, then click the “Next” button.

11) The next window that comes up will prompt you to set up an internet mail account. So, where it asks if you would like to set up an Internet mail account now, select “No”, and then click the next button.

12) In the last window (you should see: “Completing the Internet Connection Wizard” at the top of this window), you will just need to click on the “Finish” button at the bottom.

13) With that, you internet connection will be set up and ready to go. After clicking the finish button (in the last step) it should bring up the dialer window. Just click the “Dial” button to connect.
