The first step to downloading software is to find the software you want to download. Some good places are Download.Com and TUCOWS. We also have software available for download on our website.

Find the program you'd like to download and click on it. Depending on the browser that you are using to download your program, one of two things may occur.

• If you are downloading in either Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator Gold you will get a box prompting you to either Save This Program to Disk or Save File. Go ahead and click on the option to save the program and click OK.
• If you are using Netscape Communicator to download your program, when you click on the link the Smart Download should be initiated which will automatically download the file.

If you were prompted to save the file to your computer in the last step then you should see a screen pop up asking you where you want to save the file.

• Be sure to take note of where you saved the file so you can find it later.
• In the small box near the bottom labeled File Name:, type in the name of your file, for instance humbcm2.exe
• Click Save. If you are using Netscape Communicator to download your file, then the Smart Download should have already begun downloading the file and you will not need to click anything.
  

Once the download is complete you will want to install the program.

• Go to the folder that you downloaded the program to and double-click on the icon. If you are not sure where you downloaded the program, do a find for the name of the program.
• For programs ending in .exe double-clicking on the file should be all you need to do to initiate the installation procedure. Files with a .zip extension must be unzipped before they can be installed. For help with unzipping files, please read the Extracting Files section of the Humboldt Internet Tutorial on our website.
• Simply follow the instructions on your screen to install the program.
