Humboldt Internet is very pleased to announce a new Junk E Mail (spam) filter and E Mail Virus filter partnership with postini.com. Postini is a leading spam and virus filtering service used by companies like Merrill Lynch, Circuit City, and Nokia.
Postini will filter your email for viruses and for spam. Your spam email will be held on a server and you can go check the server to see if there are any messages that you may want to pass through the filter. You can go into your spam filter anytime you want, via your browser, to check your filtered email.
All quarantined messages are held for 14 days until they are automatically deleted. The removal of spam from your account on Postini is very easy, just hit remove all messages.
The new filtering is easy to customize. You can create an allow list to let all email from a particular address through. You can also block all email from a particular address. If an email was filtered and ended up in the spam list, you can selectively choose that one address out of the spam list and click a box that will always let this address through. This automatically adds it to your allow list.
This new service, if you would like to add it, will cost an additional $1 to your normal monthly fees. It is your choice whether you would like to add this additional service. We would like to be able to offer it as a free service, but the expense to us is very significant.
To sign up, you will need to call us at 825-4638 and we can activate your spam filtering account.
When we sign you up, you will be sent an email from humboldt1.com telling you to go to a web page and put in a password for your spam filter access. We suggest you do not use your normal Humboldt Internet password for this.
Once you set up your password, you will then be able access your filtered email and also to change any filtering settings to make them more or less lenient.
The greatest feature is the filtered spam and possible viruses never come onto your hard drive.
If you ever do get spam, which is not filtered, you can forward the spam, as an attachment, to spam@postini.com. They are always in the process of improving their methods of filtering spam and your forwards of the occasional spam help them to do this.
