The
Padilac was built in 1990 for on and off road racing (same race.) It also went
in the water with a retractable padle wheel and inflatable pontoons. From positive
experience with a friend's rig I decided to set this one up with controls distributed
between the two riders. The front person, known as the 'pilot' on the Padilac,
steers. The rear person, known as the captain, operates the brakes, shiftes
the deraillers, and changes over the high/low final drive chains.
A common occurance was when the captain didn't apply the brakes for a corner, the pilot knew then it was a prime opportunity to pitch the Padilac into a rear wheel drift, Dukes of Hazard* style. If that is not your riding style of course captain should always apply brakes when needed.

*Dukes of Hazard was a '70's TV program where the two main characters
race around in a late 60's Dodge Charger charger swinging the rear end out around
almost every corner encountered.

In the fall of 1990 I sold the Eco-Cycle to the Campus Recycling Project of Humboldt State University and constructed a trailer for it for doing recyclables collection.
Also here is a collection of pictures I took recently of the Eco-Cycle.
